PhD Studentship in Mainstreaming equalities

CPS, in collaboration with the Centre for Social Inclusion and Sheffield Hallam University are offering a 3 year funded PhD Studentship in mainstreaming equalities within the English regions. (30/06/2004)

We invite applications from strong candidates for this exciting, innovative and policy focused PhD studentship.

The context for the research is set by the twin developments of the greater delegation of policy responsibility (and potentially devolution) to the English regions and the Government's announcement of its plans to create a Commmission for Equality and Human Rights. The PhD will fuse academic debate around rights and equalities with policy focused research into the mainstreaming of equalities issues within key regional institutions.

The studentship comes with an attractive bursary of £10,500 in the first year, rising in subsequent years. Substantive support is also offered through both the Centre for Social Inclusion and the Centre for Public Services and the successful studentship will also gain access to desk space, computer and other research facillities. The PhD is also an ideal springboard into a variety of careers, including within the rapidly developing equalities field, public policy research, consultancy or public management.

For an informal discussion contact Alex Nunn or Dexter Whitfield (0114 272 6683) at the Centre for Public Services or Karen Escott (k.escott@shu.ac.uk 0114 225 4690) or Prof Sue Yeandle at the Centre for Social Inclusion.

The Closing date for applications is Friday 23rd July.
